After...

  1. Thanksgiving question. Not usually a big fan of pumpkin bread, I tasted a delicious version at a brunch recently and asked the baker for the recipe, which looked promising (including maple syrup, vanilla yogurt, mini chocolate chips). I made three loaves last night, two to bring to family Thanksgiving weekend and one to bring to work today. It is moist and flavorful, but has a strong flavor of cloves. The loaf disappeared at work quickly (but so does frozen Sara Lee cake), but I’ve gotten mixed reviews – from "not up to my usual" to wonderful (from an excellent cook of Greek origin who said she loves cloves). My husband he thought it had a “slightly odd flavor.” I e-mailed the baker, who said she will check whether the recipe should have said 1t cloves instead of 1T. Should I bring it to Thanksgiving? 2. Dear CK in DC,
Yes you should bring to Thanksgiving, but I can tell you now that the recipe should have said 1 teaspoon cloves, and not 1 Tablespoon cloves. I've never seen a recipe calling for that much clove, which sounds overly potent. Nevertheless, I love clove, and might be nice and spicy!

  3. The amount is for three loaves, but it's pretty potent. I know there will be other good desserts there!

  4. Usually a recipe calls for 1/4 or 1/8 teaspoon of cloves per item, max. It's probably very healthy this way though!
